How to Play Mahjong Ways 2

Mahjong Ways 2 features five reels arranged in a 4-5-5-5-4 layout, providing up to 2,000 ways to win.

Like the original, winning combinations are formed by matching symbols across consecutive reels, beginning from the left.

1. Choose your bet amount before starting a spin.

2. Press Spin to activate the five reels featuring traditional Mahjong tiles and dragon symbols.

3. Form winning combinations with matching symbols across adjacent reels from left to right.

4. Winning symbols disappear, allowing new symbols to cascade into their positions.

5. Gold Plated symbols involved in winning combinations can transform into Wilds during subsequent cascades.

6. Consecutive wins increase the multiplier, while three or more Scatters activate the Free Spins feature.

The expanded reel layout distinguishes Mahjong Ways 2 from the original game, increasing the number of possible winning ways from 1,024 to 2,000.

Its cascading mechanics can produce multiple consecutive wins during a single spin, with each additional cascade contributing to the growing multiplier.

Mahjong Ways 2 Features and Bonuses

2,000 Ways to Win

Mahjong Ways 2 increases the available winning combinations compared with the original game.

While Mahjong Ways uses five reels with four rows each, Mahjong Ways 2 adds an extra row to reels two, three, and four.

The resulting 4-5-5-5-4 layout provides 2,000 ways to win.

Winning combinations form when matching Mahjong symbols appear on consecutive reels from the leftmost reel. Multiple matching symbols can contribute to different winning ways.

The additional symbol positions also create more opportunities for Gold Plated symbols to appear and participate in winning cascades.

Cascading Reels and Wild Transformations

Mahjong Ways 2 retains the cascading system that helped establish the original game's popularity.

When a winning combination appears, the participating symbols disappear and new tiles fall into the empty positions.

This process can continue through multiple winning sequences, with the multiplier increasing as each consecutive cascade produces another win.

Gold Plated symbols can appear on reels two, three, and four during regular gameplay.

If a Gold Plated symbol participates in a winning combination, it transforms into a Wild symbol during the next cascade.

Wilds substitute for regular paying symbols, potentially helping to form additional winning combinations.

Progressive Win Multipliers

Mahjong Ways 2 uses the same progressive multiplier ladder as the original game.

Each consecutive winning cascade advances the multiplier to the next level.

During the base game, the maximum multiplier is 5x, while the Free Spins feature doubles the multiplier values, allowing wins to reach 10x.

The multiplier resets at the beginning of each new spin, including during the Free Spins feature.

As a result, the higher multiplier values apply to longer winning sequences within an individual spin rather than accumulating across separate spins.

Mahjong Ways 2 Free Spins

The Free Spins feature activates when at least three Scatter symbols appear anywhere on the reels.

Three Scatters award 10 Free Spins, while each additional Scatter adds two more spins.

The Free Spins feature introduces two major changes to the base gameplay.

First, all win multipliers are doubled, allowing consecutive cascades to reach multipliers of 2x, 4x, 6x, and 10x.

Second, the middle reel receives a special Gold Plated transformation, with all regular symbols on reel three appearing in gold.

When those symbols participate in winning combinations, they can transform into Wilds during subsequent cascades.

Free Spins can also be retriggered by landing additional Scatters, extending the bonus round.

Gold Plated Middle Reel Feature

The Gold Plated Middle Reel is one of the biggest differences between Mahjong Ways 2 and the original Mahjong Ways slot.

During normal gameplay, Gold Plated symbols appear randomly on the middle three reels.

However, during the Free Spins feature, every regular paying symbol on reel three appears Gold Plated. Wild and Scatter symbols are excluded.

When these Gold Plated symbols contribute to winning combinations, they transform into Wilds during the following cascade.

Because the middle reel plays an important role in connecting winning combinations across the grid, these additional Wild transformations can help extend cascading sequences.

Combined with the enhanced 10x multiplier ceiling, this feature is central to the sequel's bonus-round gameplay.

Mahjong Ways 2 RTP, Volatility and Maximum Win

Mahjong Ways 2 has a published Return to Player (RTP) of 96.95%, corresponding to a theoretical house edge of 3.05%.

This represents an average expected return of €96.95 for every €100 wagered over a sufficiently large number of spins, rather than a guaranteed return during an individual session.

PG Soft classifies Mahjong Ways 2 as a medium-volatility slot, with a published overall hit rate of 29.90%.

The game has an advertised theoretical maximum payout of 100,000x your stake, considerably higher than the original Mahjong Ways' 25,000x maximum.

However, the maximum win represents an exceptional theoretical outcome. Actual payouts are random and may differ significantly from the published maximum.

Mahjong Ways 2 uses a Random Number Generator (RNG), meaning neither the multiplier system nor the Gold Plated transformation feature guarantees a winning spin.

Players should check the information panel inside the game for the RTP configuration and rules applicable to their session.
